The house was moved from its original location near Route 301 and Atlee Road approximately 800 feet to its new location and new purpose as the Clubhouse for the Rutland community. This is not the first time the home has had an alternative use. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart and his cavalry division of the Army of Northern Virginia was headquartered at Rutland House from July 12 until July 23, 1862. This followed the Seven Days Battle of 1862.
The grand opening of Rutland House, held on June 26, 2008, ushers in a new era for this historical building. After a complete renovation, it is ready to begin a new life as a site to be utilized and enjoyed by the Rutland community. Therefore, what’s old is new again. If only walls could talk!
