In November 2008, Youngblood, Tyler & Associates began working with John and Kristina Heidel to develop a site design and layout for a drive-in theater in Goochland County. With affordability and fun at the forefront of their dream, John and Kristina asked Youngblood, Tyler to develop a modern day drive-in with the classic feel of drive-ins of the past. Andrew Browning, Project Manager as well as Vice President of Engineering, handled the Plan of Development with the Goochland County government and provided construction management assistance for the project.
The Goochland Drive-In Theater held its grand opening Friday, August 28th. Located in Hadensville (Exit #152 off I-64) in Goochland County, it is convenient to both Richmond and its surrounding counties as well as Charlottesville. The 380-car drive-in theater offers double features of new/current release movies played on an 80 by 40 foot screen with sound provided through the FM radio in each vehicle. A concession stand offering reasonably priced classic American food and concessions (be sure to try the “Gooch Dog”) as well as a playground for the kids all add to the feel of an old-time drive-in theater.
The Goochland Drive-In facilities will also be available for car shows and other community events.
It is a visually appealing facility on a beautiful 10-acre site located at 4344 Old Fredericksburg Road in Hadensville in Goochland County. For an evening of entertainment under the stars, pack up the kids and head to Goochland Drive-In Theater to begin your family’s happy memories.
